Fire Assessments:

The obligation to carry out a fire risk assessment is an ongoing one. This means employers must update their fire safety policies regularly. Whether this be prompted by moving premises, an expansion in the workforce or due to a building extension or new machinery. Whatever the reason for business change, you need to ensure your fire risk assessment is also updated to reflect the changes. This obligation to update your fire safety policies and carry out a competent fire risk assessment is enshrined in law, and a failure to comply with the 2005 Order could result in hefty fines and even prison.

A bespoke fire risk assessment

The fire risk assessment our engineer is able to carry out is done so with reference to the below factors:

  • The unique characteristics of your building e.g. layout and construction

  • The needs of your building’s visitors or residents e.g. elderly residents in a care home

  • The use of your building

  • Storage of flammable substances

  • Staff training

  • Overall fire safety strategy and procedures

  • Fire safety technology e.g. fire extinguishers and fire alarms

A written record of your fire risk assessment must be maintained and updated regularly. If you employ over five employees at your premises you must record ‘significant findings’ in the documentation.

A full written report will be provided

Our engineer will arrange to visit your premises in order to carry out the fire risk assessment on-site. A physical inspection of your premises will be carried out where fire hazards will be recorded in a written report. Our engineer will also review your fire safety strategy as it relates to evacuation should a fire occur and also staff fire safety training. The fire alarm and fire extinguishers will likewise be visually inspected. If further testing of equipment is deemed necessary our engineer will inform you of the same.
